SO HAS ANYBODY EVER BEEN TO LONDON?
Because I haven’t and I just noticed that I have a 12-hour layover there on the night of August 8th. Ten at night til ten the following morning. I am not interested in Bedtime at Heathrow, so does anybody know of something I can do overnight there?
I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK UNLESS IT IS ABOUT ME
Rediscovering Nevermind today in the post-tapas break-open-a-bottle-of-tinto-and-translate nighttime sludge. Things I have confirmed:
- There’s a reason I frequently listen to Bleach and sometimes throw on Incesticide and In Utero, but never this album. It’s easily the weakest in their discography.
- Despite this, “Lounge Act” and “Drain You” are the best and...
THE INTERNET TOTALLY CARES ABOUT MY DINNER
Man, that dinner was so good. I had roasted vegetables topped with fresh buffalo mozzarella, carrillada (pork cheek) cooked until it was falling apart, razor clams, a miniature hamburger made with ox meat, cooked rare, and topped with sea salt, these things that look like pot stickers but are stuffed with goat cheese and lobster and topped with salmorejo, and for dessert a chocolate torte with...
I MADE EVERY EFFORT NOT TO ABUSE HER
WELL GOOD FOR YOU NICK CAVE I’M SURE THAT WAS A STRUGGLE.
#my fucking music collection jesus christ
I’ll tell you this, if you go and you watch a Hole show—and this happens to this...
– Let’s place bets on how many people in my social circle have tried this. I am going to say two have actually done it, and seven more have wished they had the guts/opportunity to.

THE OTHER ASHLEIGH
I have a Facebook friend who I only requested because she lives in my town and has the exact same full name as me. We never talk, but I like to think we keep up with each other and identify with each other’s trials and triumphs.
She got dumped by a guy she’d been professing love for for a year today, out of the blue, and I am really bummed out :(
FEAR:
The crack that might flood your brain with light!
(yeahh found me a Tom Stoppard anthology today)
GHOSTS OF THE CIVIL DEAD
I overheard a mixed group of older Brits and Americans praising Francisco Franco at the bar next door to my house this afternoon.
“First few times I came here, ‘73 or so, it was dirt cheap. You wouldn’t pay two bloody euros for this back then, no way. Maybe a few pence, and the beer was real Spanish beer too.”
“Without a doubt. It’s not too PC to say this, but...

DE PUTA MADRE
Took the day off of work to attend a meeting of the feminist collective of the May 15th Movement, then walked down to Cartuja and tried once again to break into the abandoned ‘92 Expo park. Haven’t made it inside yet but there’s a gap in the bars along the side by the river that looks quite promising. Got Javi to open the kitchen a little early for me and had razor clams and...
CRISIS
Read in the paper today that approximately one thousand sevillanos have lost their homes in the past three months alone. There are less than one million people in Sevilla.

THIS DAMN CITY THIS DEAD CITY
In 2008 I returned to one of my childhood homes and discovered that they had torn it down to make way for a Hard Rock Hotel and that the beach was now pay access only. I bit my lip and said nothing. What was there to say?
DARLING NIKKI
So my friend Nikki sent me this amazing email just now:
Hey girl! We haven’t talked in forever!! I just wanted to say that I found this old pic of you from like 2007 and it reminded me of something. Something cool. Enjoy!!!!
This might make it look like I went through a very long, very late Siouxsie Sioux phase, but my hair just does that. And apparently so does Nick Cave’s. This...
CY TWOMBLY IS DEAD
LONG LIVE CY TWOMBLY
(I saw his exhibit in Chicago in 2009 and it remains one of my all-time favorite exhibits, along with the Gaultier show in Taipei last year and Miguel Trillo in Sevilla in 2009.)
JUAN FRANCISCO CASAS →
WIKIPEDIA
“It is estimated that around 17% of people have given thought to what their lasts words would be if they knew they were dying.”
GOING TO WORK, PART II
If there is a better way to start the day than leaving at dawn to spend an hour tearing around a medieval city on a scooter before returning home to your favorite breakfast I don’t want to hear a goddamn word about it.
