MY NEIGHBOR
Trae is seven years old, lives catercorner from me, and loves our house because it contains a motorcycle, a huge RC car, a shed full of tools, two cats, and a dog. I work from home, so naturally, he drops in nearly every day, sometimes with his adorable pit bull puppy, Gorgeous. I strongly suspect him of deliberately letting the air out of his basketball and soccer ball in order to gain access to the shed and its air pump.
Today he came by to see my dog, and after a few minutes I told him he’d have to head home because I had a lot of work to do and I’d get in trouble if I didn’t get it done.
He thought I meant housework and that I’d get in trouble with my boyfriend, and told me that his mom says that “it’s not the mom’s job to do all the work and if the dad tells you that you need to yell at him like my mom does.”
Trae is the shit.

STATE OF THE UNION
My comprehensive exams begin tomorrow and continue for a gut-wrenching week and a half. Three written exams (20 pages, 24 hours each), then a two-hour oral exam.
I’ve been incredibly sick lately, to the point of actually qualifying for disability services from the school, and am not prepared, but my advisor promised that I wouldn’t be kicked out and that there’s nothing wrong in doing a re-take so we might as well move ahead. He also said that I’m on the right track with the two committees he’s on, that he wishes me luck, and that he’ll be busy moving tomorrow but I am to call him for anything.
My advisor is awesome. I hope I don’t let him down.
